Life can always get a little bit stressful and adding in designated timescales and deadlines to the mix can also affect these stress levels. A lot of the problems we must face within our work life can be out of our control and problem solving is an everyday task. For us to ensure we don’t forget to have a little bit of fun, we organise social events and activities for all members of the office.
Not only does this get everyone out of the office and away from our computer screens (my mum always said it would give me square eyes), it helps us all to get to know each other a little bit more and what we enjoy when we are not working. It gives us all a chance to find out more about hobbies, personal life and what we enjoy (apart from our jobs of course).
We recently hosted an archery day at the Bowmen of Glen Archery in Great Glen, Leicestershire. Fore ore details on this follow their link https://bowmenofglen.org/.
There was a mixture of skill levels. Some who had done archery before and rather experienced, and then the rest of us who didn’t have the first clue of what to do. I can confirm, it is a lot harder than it looks. However, the tutors did a fabulous job and we all improved majorly by the end of the session. It was a girl power finish to the day with Yu-Li and Elena in the head-to-head finals. Both of which had never engaged in archery before and improved dramatically scoring consecutive 9’s and 10’s and showing us all how its done.
Yu-Li finally took the win and now has the plaque to prove it. A well-deserved dinner out and a drink to celebrate was the perfect finish to a lovely day had by all.
As we are official sponsors of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, we have also been able to enjoy social events being hosted here over the past few months. An office outing to watch a T20 cricket match by LCCC v Yorkshire was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed. Another brilliant night hosted by LCCC was a west end performance of an evening with queen. We were able to enjoy the company of current clients as well as some staff members being able to get a great box position of the concert where the atmosphere was electrifying.
Where possible (when the workload isn’t too high) we try and celebrate our birthdays with lunch out at local restaurants, especially if it is a milestone birthday. We are all very fortunate to enjoy each other’s company in and out of the workplace.
As I have mentioned in previous blogs, your mental health is so very important and with this being spoken about more and more. Employers are able to appreciate ways in keeping the work force happy and we are doing all we can to ensure that we are making conscious decisions to enhance this within our power. The simple gesture of organising social events for everyone to bond and learn more about each other is a great step to aiding positive mental attitude. Lets be honest, we spend a lot of time at work and we need to be happy in our roles. Like they say, if you do a job you love, you will never work a day in your life.
